That boat was a Norman and she was very capable of getting on the plane, every so often, we would put her on the plane to clear all the trapped water out of the bulkheads/sub floor area where it would rush to the back where it was easily cleared out of the bilge!

She was our first boat and I learnt a lot from owning her, did a complete rewire while she was on her swinging mooring! Mostly what could go wrong did go wrong over the time we had her, then we saw a Hardy and the die was set!

Happy days!

Hope you get sorted.

Col.

Hi Col

Much appreciated and thanks for replying so quickly to my request for help. I have spoken to my mechanic today and I will pass on your thoughts. Fingers crossed.

Kind regards

Hi Martin, lovely boat designed by Andrew Wolstenholme.

Water will always find the lowest resting point so usually the bilge area as you know!

You don't mention the engine/drive type however, you may have a small leak on the coolant system or drive shaft seals, typically a stern drive has a rubber seal/gaitor which can perish and let in water. Some drive shafts have a 'stuffer box' that can allow small amounts of water past the drive shaft. Sorry but I don't have any personal experience of these other than I know they can be a source of leakage, can be adjusted or sometimes need to be restuffed with suitable material.

You state bubbling up water around a bulkhead? could just be water finding it's way past from the other compartment - difficult to say without knowing all the facts!

I would be checking all the coolant water connections, clips and hoses for any obvious wet surfaces, we had a Cruiser in the 80s that had a Ford inboard engine and stern drive set up, one of the 4 engine core plugs had corroded enough to allow a slight drip of water into the bilge below - easy enough to fix in itself (had to shut the main seacock to do this) and access was difficult in an enclosed space - but a cheap fix once identified!

Could you get someone to assist you find this leak, someone local who knows where to look?

Good luck with this!

Col.

Dear All

I have just joined the HOC and recently purchased a Seawings 254 . I have an issue with water ingress in my bilge in the salon . I have changed the toilet seawater inlet valve and when I lifted the central floor section I found more water. The leak is quite small but enough to fill the compartment overnight.

I have noticed a further bulkhead where water is bubbling up slowly, so think it is under the cockpit area and fuel tank.

Can anybody help me. Does anybody have a plan drawing of the hull compartments and inlet ports for the Seawings 254 . I hope an Hoc member can help me.
