Hi David,

Our ‘adventures on the Caledonian Canal’ were featured in the magazine some while ago and is available to members in back issues in the ‘mores pages’ section.

I doubt much of it would be relevant today as things will have changed a lot since then, additionally we were new to boating, had very little (none) experience and only really learnt our hire boats specific limitations and handling by the end of the ‘adventure’.

We parked our car in the hire boats car park for the week but I believe that Boat hire company went out of business a long time ago now, you will need to be careful about where you leave your car for the week!

We spent a week (7 days) and it was just incredible as you are about to find out – 2 weeks with your own familiar boat will just be fantastic, all hinges on the weather of course as Scotland can be very wet and tends to start their summer season early.

It’s all good but the ultimate experience was on Loch Ness but do watch out for the moorings at Foyers as it can pick up rough there at short notice and get nasty very quick – well it did for us!

We found the Letterfinlay Lodge Hotel on the banks of Loch Lochy at Spean Bridge a lovely place to moor up at their private jetty and get a nice meal in the restaurant.

We wish you the best of experiences and it’s something we always intended to repeat (Indeed it spawned our boating ownership for many years) maybe we will when Angie retires fully! May we envy you!

Perhaps you could submit a story of your experiences to Marie, the Club Magazine Editor after you return and we can all share in the Club Magazine?

Enjoy!

Colin & Angie.

Dear all,
I intend to launch my hardy pilot 20 from its Road tra. May 2023, to spend 2 weeks exploring the caledonian canal.
Maybe at Caley Marina, inverness. I would welcome info if this is best, and on the car and trailer parking.
Caley don't have space. All advice greatly appreciated. Cheers Dave
