It's not that difficult to stow the canopy away fully on a Pilot. You can zip and unzip the sides from inside the cockpit safely. The roof and rear do need you to go on the side deck to undo the turnbuckle clips on the edge of the wheelhouse roof, though.
All the canvas stows in one of the cockpit lockers and the poles come apart and stow in the long open locker on the starboard side, below the helm's position.

Many thanks Nick.
I'm most grateful as I'd not thought of rolling the sides forward and securing with bungee. I hadn't got further than taking off the sides and having done one side and faced the re-threading the zip, I didn't think this was the best idea. At the moment she is ashore so on the water could be really tricky.
Nor had I realised what a pain it would be to roll back the top canopy and as I usually boat alone, will leave well alone.
Very many thanks. Just the sort of advice I was looking for.
Best regards and keep safe.
Rod

Hi Rod - I presume that by "stow" the sections of the canopy, you mean either letting down the main section or just the sides. I also have a Pilot and for most of my trips I simply roll back the side sections. I leave them attached to the upper zip at the forward, or bow, end and the fixings attached to the wheelhouse. I roll them forward and secure in place with a short length of bungee cord. I find that the best solution in most cases and suits me well; I generally boat alone.

Removing the main part of the canopy involves removing the sides, unclipping the upper wheelhouse fixings (can't remember the correct, technical name for those), loosening the fixings of the canopy support, undoing the felcro pads that hold the canopy support rail, and moving forwards and then lowering the whole canopy and folding as appropriate.

I guess that it's often a case of "trial & error" to see what suits you best.

Regards,

Nick.

We've just bought a Hardy 20 Pilot and is our first motorboat after years of yachting, so please excuse me if the answer to this question is blindingly obvious to seasoned owners.

My question is how to stow the sections of canopy either just the sides or all three parts. Can one roll them back and secure, or must they be taken off an stowed? If so where?

Although she is not yet in the water, we are looking forward to tranquil and easy motoring.

With thanks for any and all ideas.

Regards

Rod Brassington
