Hi Colin, I have removed the entire steering system. The mechanism attached to wheel is a metal disc cut with a
helical gear. No adjustment.
It looks like it just wear and tear.
I posted on the 24 Aug.25. ( Excessive Play in Steering. ) Keeping a strait course has driven me nuts.
When under way there was very little lateral movement of the out board but about 4 plus inches at the wheel.
I am also changing the out board ( 50 Marina Big Foot ) and fitting trim tabs. I want to get up on the plane.
That is probably another post. But again help would be really helpful.
I am an ex sailor. My first motor boat.
Best regards. Paul

Hi Paul, not totally sure about this but I believe that some of the steering boxes had adjustable cones that allowed for adjustment of clearance, have you checked yours to see if this is possible? Maybe Simon P would know?

I am replacing the steering system on my Bosun 20.
Excessive play in the old one. ( 25 years old. )
Has any one got a no feed back, or hydraulic system
on their boat?
Any information on these systems would be really helpful, before I purchase a replacement.
Many thanks.
Paul.
