Hi Michael,
From the instructions for the Vetus that I have, it appears the wipe angle is set to 110deg, but if required, can be set in 10deg steps between 40deg and 110deg. On Adele (Family Pilot) I used the preset 110deg.

Quite a tight fit for the wiper arm.

Here are the Vetus instructions/drawing I had.

Also shows wiring for either single or double speed. I stayed with single speed, as that was the switch wiring I had in place, that I chose not to update to two speed.

Hope all that assists.

You seem to be almost there - you just need to tease / persuade / knock out the old motor. Silly point, but presumably other mounting nut inside wheelhouse on the other end of the motor has been removed? That should also give you a bit of added twist and persuasion on the old motor by wiggling it from inside.

If instructions are a bit small on here, I will send by email as well.

Hi Joanna,

Looks like Dave has bought the same Vetus solution that I went for, namely Vetus Wiper Motor – RW Type Short (1) Shaft 12V from Gael Force (April 2019) for £60.49 at the time, plus a Vetus Single Wiper Arm – 280-366mm (£21.99), also from Gael Force.

By the look of your photo, I think you have the worst over. I had to dremel away at mine in much the same way. The grey bit I suspect is around or replacing the bush or spacer originally holding the old motor nut that you have already removed? See the photo attached for what my old one looked like before removal. I will post a photo of the new Vetus installation of what it looked like after replacment with new motor and wiper arm after this.

If resin has been used to help hold all in place (I would be surprised if that is so, given yours is the original installation), then it is possible that the old motor just has to be “knocked” through the bulkhead, and the old spacers removed, and the hole cleaned up. There does not appear to be any kind of nut remaining in your photo.

I recently bought two Vetus RW08A wiper motors for my Hardy Bosun. Exact fit to replace the original, with no additional wiring if you only want single speed (the Vetus motors are two-speed).
I also bought Vetus RWAS wiper arms, adjustable 280 - 366mm, which at 280mm are the right length, with 10-inch wiper blades (from a car spares dealer). The only problem with fitting was that the plastic moulding at the Spindle end of the wiper blades fouled the lip where the roof moulding extends over the windscreen. I had to carefully file away some of the plastic wiper arm housing, but it was fairly easy, and has not affected their working at all.
I bought the motors and arms from Gael Force Marine.
