Yes the panels are veneered teak and the trims solid.

Interesting Simon. Presumably are panels teak veered ply, although with frames frames of solid wood. Just thinking about the sanding down vigour, and break if stains are deep though!

Hi David,
You will find it will be best to wash the surface down first to get rid of any dirt and contamination on the surface use a scotchbrite pad with a bit of washing up liquid in it. once it is dry then sand it down with either P180 or P240 sandpaper to get rid of any old varnish until you are back to bare wood and the colour is an even colour all over. Then use a very thinned coats of varnish on the first three coats and then coat up with thicker coats until you have the finish you are happy with. This is the way I did the bulkheads and other new wood Hardy 25 refit I have just completed.

Hi David,
It depends on what the bulkheads and trims were coated with as they were coated with a liqueur type varnish. So the only really good way to go is to sand the wood down to get an even colour and use a teak stain and then re-varnish wood with either international satin varnish or a similar product. Having used international satin varnish on a Hardy 25 refit that I have completed it works well and gives good results and finish.

Hi All !
I know this may have been covered as a topic before, but I am looking for advice. I want to refurb and bring back to as good as possible the wood in the cockpit of my Bosun. It has become discoloured and very patchy. I am thinking of rubbing down then staining with Teak stain (assume it is teak).Then couple of coats of good clear varnish. Any tips and/or advice appreciated. Attached is picture showing the patchy wood at present.
