* Hi Will,

Probably too late now, but just to add to topic... on the Family Pilot there are no centre mid-ships cleats designed for or fitted to the boat. I am a great believer in them, especially for ease of handling and securing temporarily alongside when short-handed. This was one of the things I rectified early on, but chose a relatively simple solution, no doubt adaptable to the Hardy 25 if refitting is an issue.

I simply mounted cleats to the insides of the bulwarks as shown in the photo. They are handy and out of the way, but accessible from the cockpit for use with a short temporary mooring line.

They are bolted through, with bolts sawn to the correct length, and appropriate lock-nuts that are suitably hidden out of the way just below the rubber strake.

Clive

Hi Will,
The cleats you are asking about are not accessible from inside the boat as they are not bolted down through the bulwark, but are drilled and tapped into a small metal plate moulded into the deck moulding when the boat was build. The only thing to do is to remove the bolts and reseal the cleats or like the Hardy 25 I am refitting for its owner have stainless plates made that fit over the Bulwark and the plater is bolted to the bulwark and the cleat is bolted to the top of the stainless plate. In the morning I will takee a photo of the centre cleat bracket and post it on the forum for you to see the mod made to this Hardy 25 cleat.

* Hi everyone

Both centre cleats on my Hardy 25 have developed a fair bit of wobble from a lot of use over the years and are in need of re-bedding soon. I’m struggling to get to them from inside the cabin as the point at which they’re mounted isn’t accessible it seems.

Can anyone tell me how they’re fixed into the hull? Do the bolts go into a threaded plate?

If anyone’s tacked this I’d really appreciate some guidance on removal, cleaning and re-fitting :-)

Many thanks,

Will
