Search google for agglomerator, I fitted a glass bowled one on our last boat, note glass bowl is not BSC compliant, but it sure made it easy to see what was going on.

I would say primer is the first thing in the fuel line after the tank, that way you can pressurise the whole of the syetem with the bulb.
I would make sure its a quality bulb becasue if it lets in any air you have a dead engine.

Lots of french cars used to have them as std fit.

I am fitting a new fuel hose line and primer bulb so am taking opportunity to also install a water separator filter. Lots of different view out there, should it be:

Tank/primer bulb/ filter/ engine
or
Tank/filter / primer bulb /engine

What are your thoughts/experience??

thanks in advance

David
