I spent 20 years as a kid and teenager and adult boating in Chichester, from Chichester Marina - starting with a Navigator 18 and then through some Fairlines - and still get down there now and again, a lovely harbour, one of the countries greats! The Lady Helen is still in commission in Dartmouth, and gets used when Weather allows, she'll be out for a maintenance for a month in late winter, and probably again in the busy high summer for drying out and epoxy treatment. The winter offers some of the best boating days in my opinion.. Cheers Si

* I decided to keep my boat, a Hardy Bosun, in the water this winter for the first time. With my previous boat and this one I always had the boat lifted and stored ashore from October to March. With a change of Marinas and the 24/7 locking facility at Chichester Marina I thought may use the boat in winter. It has been great; we have had some fantastic days with hardly any other boats around. Last week on Tuesday Chichester Harbour was like a mill pond, see my picture, a bit different yesterday (Sunday) on a trip up to Emsworth crossing the mouth of the harbour with and incoming tide and a force 4, the boat handled it well and it was fun! Being in Chichester Harbour does give you advantage as you can take lots of 2/3 hour little cruises as you do not have to go straight out to sea. Just have to wrap up with lots of layers and take a flask of something to keep warm !
