Hi Barrie, I worked for Hardy Marine during the 1980's until 1990. So I know a thing or two about the headlining in your boat. The job is easy if you have the patience and time. The only problem is getting rid of the old glue off the boards so you can get the new material to stick properly. Make sure you get the correct material as some vinyls the glue reacts with the material and it comes apart. If you need any advice on doing the job from a person who did the job the first time round. You can call me on 07585506960 Regards Simon Papendick

Hi Neil, The only think that I did that was slightly different, was I attached very thin wood battens first, so that there was a slight gap between the back of the boards and the inner roof - I'm hoping that this will allow air circulations and discourage moisture / condensation from gathering at the back of the boards, especially in the galley area. That as well as small leaks can cause the stains in the first instance. I also added a thin damp proof membrane sheet behind the boards to help act as an additional barrier. We shall see if this has all worked. I finished it all off with some oak angled edging across the rear of the coach roof, which also helped to support the rear of the boards once they were attached. Did the same around the hatch and it just makes everything nice and tidy. HOC Ed.

I recently had the same issue, I took mine down, & covered them with a cream vinyl ,from a haberdashery shop, stapling it into place , relatively easy job, replaced the plastic screw covers. It was a relatively easy job & looks much better.

Ahoy Barrie, I am at this very moment replacing my own headlinings amongst other bits and pieces on my Family Pilot - many of our members prefer to do this task themselves in order to save money. However, one of the most established companies to go to both for materials and advice would be Hawke House. They are happy to offer advice but also can provide a fitter to help you. So whatever you decide to do, have a word with them first. Also, if you are intending to visit the Southampton Boat Show 11th -20th September, they are on stand no. B015. Here are their details: Hawke House Ltd,
E1 Heritage Business Park,
Heritage Way,
Gosport, PO12 4BG Tel: 02392 588 588 Email: info@hawkehouse.co.uk Good luck with it all, and get back to us if you have any problems. All the best, HOC Editor.

The headlining in the cockpit of my Hardy Pilot 20 SE has got grubby stains. I have read about cleaning the headlining but feel it is too far gone and needs to be replaced. Has anyone undertaking this job? Does anyone know whether a supplier will undertake a replacement service? All suggestions considered> Barrie Walker Boat name Tyke moored at Naburn nr York
