Thanks Marie and Simon, your replies are much appreciated and make things clearer, there should be no hooks where I was looking!! Reading your replies and others on the forum I think the rope has just stretched a bit and perhaps the rope fender been bashed once or twice! I will try and tighten it at the u bolts on the stern. Loving the boat by the way! A little different from my previous one a Fairline Sprint, seems to be a much more relaxing aura to the Hardy whilst cruising! A few upgrades/enhancements are in the planning so no doubt more questions on the forum from me in the future, thanks again, David

* Thanks Simon, That explains it well. This is a shot of my own Family Pilot when she was out being cleaned and polished, and you can just see the lacing eyes that Simon is referring to. There are actually four on each side of my bow, not three as I previously thought. (Memory going..) Other than lacing up to the U bolts on the stern, these are the only other points to attach the fender to. Good luck. Marie HOC Editor

Hi David, I am Simon Papendick and as a former employee of Hardy Marine, I know the rope fender problem very well. On the Family Pilot's there were three and sometimes four lacing eyes under behind the rope fender. The way the rope fender was tensioned on the boats was with a heavy duty trailer strap with a shackle on both ends. these shackles were fixed to the eyes in the ends of the rope fender and the strap was tensioned to take the lack out of the rope and fit the rope fender into position. At which time the rope fender was fixed to the lacing eyes. When this was done the aft ends were lace to the U bolts on the transom and the strap was released and the rope was tapped into position with a soft mallet. Regards Simon Papendick

Hi again David, What I forgot to say in my previous post, was that I also used some of those big electrical ties that I was going on about to re-tension the rope from time to time, in order to take up the slack while I re-tie the cord attaching the end of the fender to the anchor points on the stern. This is very useful if you are working on your own. Again good luck with it. I am sure you will do the job with ease.... HOC Editor

Ahoy to you David and welcome, You will not find anchor points for you to attach the fender all along the hull, just towards the bow, (from memory I think there are three each side of the bow) and the rope should sit on the rubbing strake on each side and on the small support at the tip of the bow - the rest is tension that holds it in place. You may get a bit of tension actually fitting the fender, LOL - but all it takes is a bit of patience and time. The fender itself is held by tensioning the ends at the transom. Yes you will need to do this from time to time, as the rope will stretch a little and require tightening every so often. I found that when fitting the fender some really long electrical ties, the sort you get from an electrical wholesaler, are great for holding the rope in place on each stanchion, till you get it in to position - then once it is secured at the stern, cut the ties off. Job done. The fiddliest bit is feeding whatever you eventually choose to secure the rope with through the rope and around it's central heart and back into the anchor point. Again, I used small electrical ties to help me feed the tie through, along with a flat end screwdriver. I hope all this helps, if not get back to us as there will be loads of members who have already completed this task a few times willing to help I am sure. Good luck and all the best, Marie HOC Editor.

Hello fellow Hardy owners, New owner, just bought a Hardy Bosun, perennial problem rope fender! It is falling down on one side, have looked for the hooks to tie up to but there are none there. How many should be on each side and what are they? (i.e. are they eye hooks or similar)? Any advice helpful. I have read up on the forum about fixing with stainless steel cable ties so will use this method once I have something to attach to. One other question, dose the rope fender stretch? Just wondered if this was the cause of it falling away. thanks, David
