Thanks again for your detailed reply Simon. When you say "not steel rivets", I asume you mean stainless steel - is that correct? Cheers, Mike

Hi Mike, On the question of refitting the rope fender with cable ties, it is an easy job with the right tools. When I worked at Hardy's it was done with a pipe of metal pipe with half the pipe cut away so that it could be used to push the rope apart to that the cable tie round the inner wire and that way it would be out of sight. On the other question the canopy clips were normally fixed with rivets most of the time and sometimes screws. So it is ok to use rivets as long as they are not steel rivets. Two questions. I have just bought a Hardy 17, and have two questions! I took the fender off to paint the boat, and while it was out of the water, quickly fitted the rope with cable ties. But, I found it impossible to put them around the inner cable so put them around the rope! However, I'm thinking about using some strong colourful cord (from Force 4!) as I feel that will be stronger and look OK! There is no way I can get any ties around the wire, it would take forever if I did manage it and I'm not that bothered about the ties being seen! Being an OAP I can't afford to pay to have it done in any event! Has anyone any other ideas? I also have to replace some canopy clips, and wonder what is the best way to fix them as I feel that the previous holes may now be a bit useless! Would it be OK to use rivets? It may be a stipid question, but I would prefer to check before buying a rivet gun etc! Thanks. Mike
