Hi. Neil. I've a 20' Bosun. I work on the heaviest anchor and gear I can safely handle and stow. My gear's as follows: Anchor: 7.5KG Bruce: 30m of 12mm Rope and 08m of 6MM Chain. I anchor in shallower water than you. 5m-2m, and if a spring tide there's a couple of knots running. With a short, choppy sea if wind against tide. The bottom's sand or mud and good holding ground for my gear. To weigh anchor I heave short till the chain's visible, then come astern on the engine to break the anchor out before attempting to bring the anchor home. With a tide running it's very difficult to heave the anchor home without assistance from my engine. If I'd dragged with this the heaviest gear I can handle. I would look for another anchorage. Regards. Martin.

Ahoy Neil I passed your question on to Simon Papendick, and he replied with this: Hi Marie, Having looked at the message it appears that Neil has got the wrong size anchor for the boat and the sort of anchoring he is trying to do. For one thing the anchor needs to be at least 15kg and be either a CQR or a bruce anchor and the amount of chain needs to be doubled as does the warp to give any amount of chance to dig in and hold the boat. The scope of the anchor chain and warp needs to be at least 4 to 1 with all chain and 6 to 1 if chain and warp are used. These are minimum amounts to use. Regards Simon Papendick J-Star Boat Services.

I use my hardy for angling I fish in about 25ft water, sometimes a bit choppy. I have had a problem dragging anchor. I have 25m of rope +5m chain Anchor is a 5kg Bruce type, I have been given a large possibly 20+kg danforth which is a bit too heavy to handle. What is the recommended type & weight for this size of boat? Any suggestions?
