Graeme, I fitted a Roca two-speed motor last year as a replacement for the rather tatty and unreliable little unit that a previous owner had used as a replacement. I think Roca have updated their range now, so the model details won't be much use, I'm afraid. Suffice to say that it's neat and tidy inside (required a bit of cutting of the inner skin to accommodate the casing - and they are (were) available with different armature lengths. Even with a short one, fitting is a pain, due to the overhanging lip. I replaced the wiper arm with a pantograph unit(I just like them) and had to remove the plastic cover over the hinge to make a bit more space available. Fitting is a two-handed job - needs someone to offer up the motor from inside, moving the splined shaft through the hole into the ready positioned arm, whilst holding it square to the shaft against the spring. Then there's getting the correct sweep angle.... I rebuilt the arm by removing and moving the rivets, making it a bit shorter, as well as reducing the spring tension. I bought an 11 inch blade, and again, cut it down and bolted it to fit. If it's any consolation, it was the most difficult job I've yet done on the boat, and I've done a few....! Tim.

Hi G. Funnily enough we have greater problems sourcing the correct length wiper blades. In the end I found MK1 Landrover Defenders were near enough the correct length so as not to foul the window frame on each stroke.. Ref. Wiper motor arm length. Our replacements have been Vetus units who do produce a near identical version to the original factory fitted type. Hope this helps.

I own a Hardy Family Pilot, and the wiper motor has expired. Finding a replacement is straighforward except that the armature on all possible replacements is much longer that the original (the original being approx 15mm long and all replacements being 35-40mm long). The armature on all of these are cast so cutting them is not an option. The need for the short armature is because the lip of the roof overhangs where the armature comes through. Any help or advice where I could source a replacement wiper motor would be very gratefully received. Many thanks. Many thanks, Graeme McCusker.
