Further to my previous posting - Just in case anyone else is interested, I've contacted Hardy (very helpful) - they confirm these were not standard fittings.

PH 17. Hi, I've had a PH 17 for a number of years. It is fitted with rigid 'trim tabs' (not sure if they have another name - they are cast aluminum screwed to the transom) One has become dislodged. As both are quite pitted with corrosion I am thinking of removing both and not replacing, but would like to know if they are standard and the likely consequence? Boat is powered by 40 hp 2 stroke Mariner. Any advice? Many thanks. Greg

I had the same problem re wiper blades. Mine had ben changed so I had to go to a motor shop and match them. Hardy Marine are extremely helpful, so I would give them a call first. Also try starting a separate thread on this forum. I have always found people (owners) are very helpful. Hope your weather is better up there than it is down here ! Mike

thanks for that mike Having used the boat a little now I am starting to get the feel of her. The trim tabs can be either port up, stbrd down or both up together or both down together, and yes I needed both trim tabs down and stern drive all down to berth her as she was very jittery ,I am used to a old 15ton fishing boat, so the stern drives and trim tabs are a new ball game to me, again thx for your time and trouble, I have a problem living on the west coast of Scotland trying to get parts, ie i am trying to identify what type of wiper blade I need, I believe it is the original motor and arm from hardys 1997 any help will be appreciated cruicky

Cruicky, We have a Hardy 25 and our trim tabs both operate in the same direction. However, I think yours are deliberately wired that way so as to operate differentially, like ailerons on an aircraft's wing. When one goes up, the other goes down and moves the boat laterally but not horizontally (side to side but not fore & aft). We were told taht trim tabs were to be used that way to cure any 'list' and the power trim on the sterndrive leg was to be used to adjust bow up / down (fore & aft ) trim. Trouble is we have been given conflicting advice as to whether you adjust list by moving the relevant trim tab up or down. What does work is dropping both trim tabs at berthing speed to assist low speed handling (which you cannot do if they operate in different directions). Hope this helps. Mike

Many thanks Tim. They are electrical and are made by Eltrim. I have had a look on there web site under downloads, insructions, and port up starboard down seems to be correct. should have looked there first!!! thanks again

We have a Hardy 25 with 'Boat Leveller' trim tabs and a Volvo 280B outdrive. There are two rocker switches for trim tab control, one port and one starboard. You should be able to control both tabs independently to trim the boat on the plane to achieve a comfortable ride with the best hull speed for the minimum no of engine revs. If the starboard tab rises when the port is lowered it sounds like you have a leaking valve in the system. What type of tabs are they? If they are hydraulic then this should certainly not happen. If they are electrically operated tabs, look at the wiring and get a wiring chart to check that the connections are correct. Hope this helps.
