I have a Hardy Seawings 194, which is the same format as the Navigator. This has a solid 'lid' which fits over the outboard well and is finished with the same carpeting as the inside of the boat, which suggest that it came from Hardy, with the boat. Might be worth checking with Hardy?

Peter , Just out of interest never noticed this as a problem with my 27 , but did have flaps, ( rubber add ons ) fitted to the exhausts to stop back wash...this might be curing the problem and a cheap fix if it works for you ... Steve

I have a Hardy 537 with the engine well fixed in the cockpit. Yahaha 15hp outboard. The previous owner fitted a flexible exhaust pipe from the engine to the outside of the boat. This exhaust kicks in when the engine is under load & expels the fumes out of the cockpit. I believe this can be done on most outboards. Worth an explore.

I have the same problem with my Hardy 27, caused by fumes being drawn up through a gap between the transom door and the cockpit canopy. There seems to be a draught running forwards through the boat, even in a headwind. I temporarily solved it with a sheet of plastic to fill the gap but a different canopy design would be better. Get a carbon monoxide detector for the wheelhouse to be on the safe side!
