It turned out to be drive belts. There were two belts, one had failed and probably destroyed its neighbour. Service pack cost £110.

Thank you Phil, I will pass this on to the chap who was going to try to fix for me. Your message is just in time to save me a lot of messing about and cost. Steve.

Steve, bad news, your pilot is broken. Inside you will only find a motor/gearbox assy and a wrap spring clutch. Be very carefull with the spring!Either the clutch or the box are broken. This unit has been re-designed with a new clutch and is now the SPX5 sportpilot. Not sure if Raymarine still supply spares but it is worth giving them a ring to check if they can service it and/or provide you with spares. Contact details on raymarine.com Regards Phil

Tried going through the set-up but no success. Reckon there is a drive belt of similar in steering head unit. Will investigate and let anyone who is interested know here later.

I have this on my 25 and it stopped working the other week. All I get now is a whirring from the control unit behind the wheel as if it isn't engaging with the drive system. I've checked all wiring and seems ok. Does the equipment just need recalibration perhaps or has something broken?
