Thanks Brian I'm looking forward to giving this a try when I launch the boat in the Spring. Cheers Andy

Hi Andy Have had a Hardy Pilot since 1993. Orinally with a 75hp Mercury outboard and more recently with a 90hp Evinrude. Still fitted with original type Morse cable steering system, though this was renewed in 2005. With both the Mercury and Evinrude can't say have had any torque deflection problem that a small adjustment of the skeg deflector fin couldn't solve. Regards Brian

Hi Andy We use a good old morse/teleflex helm system I.E cable driven. Its been fine for us. Perhaps a little heavy but nothing to write home about. Admittedly, I have the deflector skeg at almost max with our Honda 75 but it does take most of the torque deflection out. Can't guarantee it will work for you but its the first port of call on such matters. Afraid I have no experience of hydraulic helm systems. I know they are used on some Pilots. Indeed one system was offered to be fitted on ours when we had our engine fit in 2003. Cost put me off hasving just shelled out £5k on the engine! Maybe with an 80hp there is a case however to go hydraulic. Ask some of the Honda 90 owners maybe. Best Dom.

Hi Dominic No come to think of it, I haven't. It crossed my mind, but as the torque steer is so strong I didn't think it would make any difference, so forgot about it. I'll hold off buying anything and try that in the Spring. What steering system do you use? Thanks for the tip. Andy

Hi Just our of interest, have you adjusted the torque deflector skeg on the outboard leg to counteract some if not most of this effect? Normally its under the cavitation plate somewhere. Dominic.

On my Pilot SE with an 80 Hp 4 stroke, I get excessive torque steer from the engine. Letting go of the wheel would have the boat veer off to the side very sharply. I have standard Teleflex type steering. Has anyone got the 'No Force Feedback' (or whatever it's called) cable steering set up? If so is it effective? Can anyone comment on the cost and ease of installation of hydraulic steering? Any other general comments or options for this? Cheers Andy
