I have a Fishing 20,and I have rebuilt it to fit a 105 hp diesel. The engine is a Volvo tamd 22 aquadrive singleprop. Topspeed 22 knots. I have tried and tried to do something to the marvelous noise. But the boat gives me a lot of fun!

George has a 60 yam on the back 4 stroke and is plenty power to get him in and out of trouble were on the east coast as well,in Anstruther in Fife in bonnyland your ever down this way pop in for a coffee or other. Were going into Dunbar harbour in a 2metre swell once and he kept disappearing just behind me. a 45 should be enough for the coastal waters, but you might not get up and plane hope you have a nice season were across at North Berwick and Dunbar staying the weekend quite a lot ,and helping local businesses with donations for new barrels

Peter They're really excellent action shots. The Pilot looks right at home with the swell running. Your friend has a nice boat. Thanks for posting the links. Cheers Andy

Peter, just been looking at george's very nice 'Halcyon' forging through the waves, as in: - http://s174.photobucket.com/albums/w97/peterboo1/boat/?action=view¤t=DSC00347.jpg I too have a Pilot 20 that I'm hoping to take out into the east coast inshore waters soon, as opposed to the canal we have been cruising for the last year in her. Could you please tell me what size o/b George has? I have a honda 45 HP and I am not sure if it will be OK for estuary work. Where do you and George sail? Andy

I've got the ms Hardy 20 shaft drive 16 hours full throttle out of ten gallon tank, at half revs a lot longer, 6 knots max cruises 4 knots and sails at 4 knots in a 4 to 5, 6 to 7 6 knots, 1 to 2, 1 knot Have been asked before about sea keeping qualities - copy paste this link for boat in a force 6 to 7 http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w97/peterboo1/211007/21October20072.jpg

Hello I have a Hardy Fishing 20 with a 75hp diesel with an outdrive. This gives approx. 14 knots and usually swallows one gallon per hour at this speed. Engine is in a sound proofed box.

Can anyone else comment on the diesel pilot? I am looking for a Pilot SE and would consider the 78hp or 105hp diesel. Has anonyone any performance figures for these engines or any general info regarding noise, trim and ability to plane? Cheers Andy

We have a 1995 Family Pilot 20 with a Volvo Penta MD22 diesel engine (59hp) and SP-C outdrive. She certainly isn't the fastest thing on the water (max 8.5 kn so far!), but economy is superb (last fill up 0.6 gall/hr). We're going to look at propeller size and pitch to see if any more speed can be gained, but this isn't a major concern.

Hi I want to buy a Hardy 20 and I hear that there is a diesel version, although I haven't found one for sale. Can anyone tell me about this version - if it exists. Is it shaft drive? Many thanks Phil

Phil To my knowledge the Pilot came with approx 28, 58 and 105hp diesels. The small engine was on a sail drive (I think) and the rest were conventional outdrive. All the engines were Volvo. I read a test some time ago in Motor Boats Monthly on the 58 hp. It struggled to make 8 knots and created a large wake. I think the 105hp would give decent speed but would be quite heavy so may not match the Honda 75 with the correct prop. I also remember reading a comment from someone that this was the noisest boat they had ever been in. Obviously some additional sound proofing may sort this. The fishing 20 came with diesel and I think was fitted with a shaft drive as well as a stern drive. I hope this helps. Cheers Andy
