I'm a survey and just surveyed my first 25. I noted the cockpit drains on the boat I surveyed were only 2-3 cm above the waterline and there was nothing to stop the water getting in! The guy had just bought the boat and wasn't happy that it was 2-3 cm away from sinking. These must have had either a non return valve or drain sock fitted. Open drains such as this need to be at least 30cm above the waterline.

I just replaced mine on our hardy 25 (1992) this winter. I got replacements from Hardy and was told they have a non return valve fitted. Perhaps the ones fitted were not original part equivalents ?

An old posting that caught my eye - a point worth bearing in mind if you have these drains fitted is that any fuel of oil leak could unknowingly find its way overboard. Had this myself recently and couldn't understand how the stuff got out until I saw the stern tubes with the boat on the hard. Stopping them up with mastic might be a good idea.
