Hi Richard we have a Hardy SE and would like to think about having new covers made and the tonneau arrangement you had made seems the best idea. We live in Greece now (left UK 7 years ago) but the locals are very good at making this sort of thing. Would you e-mail some photos also please ?? Many Thenks Mike

Thanks every one for the info. It looks like my best bet is to gat a local firm to make a set of covers that I can ensure have a good fit. Richard Duckett

If it helps --- I had a cover made by Jeckells in Wroxham, Norfolk (01603 784488), for my pilot SE, it was pricey (£750) but made to measure and has proved excellent. They came and fitted it on the boat - moored near Ipswich. I decided that I was fed up with the metal frame tent type thing that came with the boat and hassle of taking off the standard and heavy Hardy cover, so replaced it with a Tonneau arrangement which I can roll onto the cabin roof when the weather is good. It is made from a material called 'Top Gun which is lighter and, I'm told, stronger than the original material. It is quick to remove and refit - I am also finding that the headroom lost at the stern is also quite acceptable. Happy to take some pics and e mail if you are interested.

Sorry I have only just seen this correspondance, but if it is still of some interest I had a replacement cover made for my Family Pilot by a company in Birdham, near Chichester called, Cover to Cover. It cost me £500 (back in Nov 2002)but they were fantastic and the cover is still going strong. At the time my boat was at Dell Quay and they came and measured up and fitted it. Their address is Whitestone Farm, Main Road Birdham PO20 7HU. Tel 01243 514827.

Well it's now been fitted by a local awning maker, the quality according to him is good, however the fitting is not due to Suffolk Trimmers using my old canopy as a template, which they stated they would use for any future Mariner canopy orders (Heaven Forbid) My Local fitter had to stitch in pleats to give the correct tension & fit, more expense and does not look good...... Having parted with £800 to Suffolk Trimmers who did not inspire an air of confidence or expertise and are in Suffolk (my boat is on the Isle Of Wight) I now know to go local for superior quality and importantly some change to help keep me afloat. The lesson learnt here is to use a professional and local awning manufacturer, who can size up your vessel and adjust accordingly. Endorsing Steve Pickthall comments I suggest Hardy owners in search of a canopy give Suffolk Trimmers a very wide berth.

I bought a set of covers from these people for my 27 earlier this year at a cost of £ 600 quid. I have had nothing but trouble with them they were not that well made and had to be taken back to be altered . Now they leak like a sieve at the top, and after about 6 phone calls to them , and never ending promises that someone would ring me back , i have finally got them to agree to take them back , and look at them again. Trouble is to send them back means no covers on my boat , in the weather that we have been having. Looks like I shall have to look elsewhere to get some others made, in the long run.

Richard, the original OEM (Original equipment manufacturer) supplier to Hardy it seems was Suffolk Trimmers, based in Bury St Edmunds, Tel: 01359 235268 or 235255 call to confirm they have your vessels template, and naturally request a quotation. They have just produced a canopy for my Mariner, claiming they had lost the original Mariner template they used my old canopy as a new template. I'll let you know how well they did and if it flaps around like an rogue spinaker or fits taught, it's due to be fitted 13th July 2007

I have a Navigator that needs a new set of covers. This seems to be a common replacement problem. I can only find Wilsons of Kinver advertising. Can any one suggest any other sorces? Isn`t it possable for the club to compile a directory of outlets?
