I'm on my 8th coat now, and while it is a major job, and very time consuming, it's looking good. (Preperation is the key) Contact International Paints they have a useful DVD showing how to do it... but I guess by now you have aleady done it!

I painted a previous boat of mine and you could seen your face reflected on surface and no paint runs. Make sure you can easily reach all areas to be painted at a working height. Prepare with wet and dry. Use tacky cloths to remove dust. Used two pot polyurethane. Happened to be Blake's True Blue. Painting best done by two people one with roller other with pad. Mix and thin paint at 10-15% using proper thinners. Avoid hot sun. One person starts to roller on paint and small brush for corners. Second follows behind with pad working vertically top to bottom. The roller must not get more than a few feet ahead of the pad otherwise paint will become tacky. Best to go for high build ie about six coats as this could be cut back We put on two coats a day for three days. Result you would have thought it a new boat over 3-4 feet away. If you are good at it you might be able to both roller and pad, but I prefer avoid stress. All the best

Hi Gordon. I have the same problem, I am currently useing vary fine steel wool to remove the crud, followed by a marine cutting compound which works for GRP. Finishing this off with polish. It is not perfect but is vastly better than it had been.

Thanks, Steve. Yes, I did the machine polish at the start of this season but it's going to need quite a lot more than that. Any other advice out there, please?

Hi Gordon , I would not know what to suggest with regard to painting or spraying, other to say have you tried giving the hull a good machine polish ?? It is surprising what a difference it can make to a faded hull ? Of course if this is not a consideration, I suggest you have a word with Hardy's, they well may be the best people to advise you ..

I have a Hardy 17 Fisher which has a blue hull that has become very faded and scratched. Any advice as to the best paint or gel combinations to re-do the hull and get it back to something like its original appearance?
