Hi John.......I recently fitted a yamaha 80 & trim tabs to my 1994 family pilot, in my opinion the last thing that you want to do is to add weight to the bow just to try to keep it down.....you do not explain your real problem, I assume thet as per most pilots the stern is digging in & the bow raising when you increase speed. how many people on board? & what prop are you using? I think Im right in saying that the Bosun hull is a semi Planing where as the pilot is semi displacement, Also that the transom on the bosun is angled whereas on the Pilot its vertical & fitting wedges on the Pilot means that you can trim the engine in more. being semi planing makes the Bosun more suited to getting on the plane. Do you get on the plane? If you need any help feel free to call me. Steve 0797 495 2877

As new owner of 2000 Bosun with Honda 75 I have same problem, previous owner put crew member in cabin to hold bow down. Hitherto I have been thinking of installing bow fresh water tank, adding more anchor chain and/or trim tabs. Nobody has mentioned'wedges'- could somebody advise me please?

I currently have a Mariner 45 on my Family Pilot, which I only use toodling up and down the Thames. It has given me a lot of problems as it's never really opened up and I have been advised to change it for a lower HP 4-stroke. Should I go for 15, 20 or 25HP or anything else?

Regarding problems with planing. I own 1993 Fishing 20 with short stud keel as pilot 20 with Honda 50 four stroke outboard. Originally, only achieved 4000 revs and 12 knots. Fitted smaller prop achieved 5500 revs but only 13-14 knots. Fitted Doelfins to cavitation plate on outboard - no difference. Had wedges fitted under outboard as suggested in Hardy Magazine achieved 18-20 knots, totally different boat. Try this before trim tabs and save expense. My timber wedge was fitted by Paul at South Coast Outboards - 01202 496 630, who made an excellent job of fitting mine and still has 3 wedges in stock. Give him a call. Regards Dave

Folks, Does anyone know if there is a Honda Part No. for the transom wedge required to satisfactoraly mount a Honda 75HP on the pre-1996 type of Family Piloy transom? I've seen a Johnson/Evinrude part no. quoted elsewhere, but wondered if Honda made such a thing? Furthermore, is there a specific optimum angle of wedge that should be looked for? Finally, how are they fitted? Does it involve hoisting off the engine, or can it be 'slid' into place? Many thanks in advance for any advice..... Regards, Pete (complete with HOC membership at last!!)
