Alistair, did you ever get this resolved? I am considering puting an inboard into my Hardy 18 motor sailor, why did you want to get away from the inboard? What did you end up with as an outboard and how is it performing?

Looking for help or info on which engine to use as my Hardy 18 motor sailor curently has a inboard/outboard Volvo 50c petrol engine, with a very small two blade prop, please can someone tell me if & what size of outboard i could fit & with how much work, Also what to use to close up the hole if the old engine removed'?

Hi everybody,i have a Navigator and would like to know if it is possible to fit hardwood bilge keels rather than having to put beach legs on everytime I moor up ?. Would they affect the handling ect. ? would like to hear your comments please.

The keels on my Hardy '21' motorsailer are held on by bolts which are easily accessed in the lockers under the seats inside the boat. I removed my keels last year to extend them (So that the boat could take the ground with out bending the prop) and removing them was no problem. If your proposed boat is a '21' be warned that the keels are heavy (about 11 cwt each) but are made of cast iron and can be cleaned up quite easily before repainting. Sorry I'm unsure about outboard size but would suggest that you ask an outboard supplier.

I am considering purchasing a Hardy motor sailer in very neglected condition. the bilge keels are rusted externally and I wondered if the holding bolts are accessible to inspection. Also there is no motor with the boat and I wondered what are the usual or optimum outboards for this craft.

Hi Nicolas. I am also looking at a 537 - did you ever get round to buying one. I would be interested to see what you think. Also, any advice from elsewhere would be appreciated. Regards, Alan

Hello everyone, I know people have put inboards into the 18' navigator but does anyone know about doing this with the motor sailor? Are the two hulls the same? I would appreciate any information as I am about to buy a 537. Thanks very much. Regards, Nicolas
