Good information from Marwin. I have just bought my second Regatta, currently undergoing repairs to a neglected keel and port side of hull. On my last one I fitted a Suzuki 70hp 4st. Max speed was around 25 knots. However with 4 adults on board she struggled to get onto the plane, possibly due to wrong prop or just too much weight aft. This time I am thinking of an ETec 90. Its the same block as Marwin's 75 and should have ample grunt when needed. Has anybody fitted a 90 to a Regatta? I would be interested to hear about it.

As said earlier, 55 Hp is not big enough for planning + economics. A modern 2 stroke or 4 stroke motor have aprox. same consumption, but 4 stroke is a little heavier and more parts (inside)... Evinrude eTec 75 Hp is a good choice...

Hi Folks. I have a Hardy Regatta with a Mariner 55hp 2 stroke (about 1985), does any one know the max outboard engine you can fit to this craft and is a 4 stroke better better than a 2 stroke, and if possible what sort of speed am I looking at. Cheers Nick.

After cleaning and painting the (under water)hull, the top speed crossed 26 knots. Marwin

Hi Jock Slorance. Have a 15 Hp 4 Honda as aux. motor. Gives ca. 6 knots on full trottle. On 4,5 knots the fuel consumption is half, compared to same speed on the E-Tech...

Testing 75 Hp E-Tech on the Regatta now. Calculated speed was 25,2 knots, GPS-speed IS 25,5 knots. due to more weight on motor, the boat is little harder to get in plane (without active use of trimplan and motor tilting) and the top rev. on motor is only 4500 rpm. Prop. is 14 X 17 , possibly too big? Trying 13,35 X 15 now. (More later) The fuel cons. is VERY low! (Ca. half of former motor, Suzuki 55Hp 2-stroke from -89) Ideal economical speed has gone up from 18 to 19,5 knots (due to heavier motor and more batteries??) Noise is far better on the new motor! Also lower in pitch. So far I think this is a good choice! Marwin

Just ordered a Evindrude E-tech 75 Hp for mounting on the Regatta next week. Think that 4-stroke is too complicated, and that E-tech have the same fuel consumtion. More comments when motor is mounted.

As said in earlier answer here: Have a 55 HP 2-stroke on my Regatta. Goes in 18 - 20 knots with full trottle. Will mount a 70 HP 4-stroke and think that will be a better motor More economical!

I propose to use my Regatta for coastal trips but also want to trail it to inland waterways in the UK, France and Holland. I appreciate that a 40 / 50 hp is usual for this boat. I've been reading Marian Martin's ''European aterways'' and have noted that torque is what really matters on inland waterways. The questions are: Would an 8 or 9.9 hp Yamaha high thrust have sufficient power and could I expect 4 to 6 knots? Would it be as economical as a 40 / 50 hp standard 4 stroke outboard running at low revs? Would a 50 hp high thrust outboard lift the boat onto the plane? As a matter of interest, what effect would I get from a 25 hp high thrust? I suppose I am really looking for multi purpose if this is possible. Advice on pros and cons please!!
