Hi David,
Thanks for your response.
Air gaps is something I have not considered. I will check this out.

Kenny

I have a suspicion that the anti-foul isn't the problem. My understanding is that air gaps are usually the problem as air doesn't transmit ultra sound waves. I have installed my low end Garmin transducer by sticking it in place with silicone directly inside the hull. It seems to work OK. I checked this with the previous installation on the boat of a Lowrance fish finder which had a transom mounted transducer. Both units gave identical depth readings.

I have been experiencing issues with faulty readings on Airmar P66 transom mount transducer.

I am hopeful that the missing log reading and the intermittent depth information has been caused by an accumulation of Cruiser 250 self-polishing antifoul. I plan to remove all antifoul from the P66 in the vain hope this will resolve the problem. Alternative is take the easy route and replace transducer.

I was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and what protection they use on the transducer. I have found this product which claims to last 2yrs - Airmar FF15K FoulFree Transducer Anti-Fouling Kit - 15ml.

Like all things boat not a cheap product £45.00-£55.00 for a 15ml 'eye bath'

I would appreciate any advice you may have on this problem.

Regards,
Kenny
