John,

I ordered the new fender complete with wire and eyes already fitted although it was an option to reuse the old one. I was afraid that the old one might be perished. The wire insert on the original Hardy supplied fender when the boat was new in 2000 broke after 11 years hence my caution.

Regards

Morgan

* It's good to see that you've got as far as you have.
When we replaced the coir fender, we acquired the replacement from a supplier in Upnor.
Although it might seem difficult, getting the wire core into the rope was surprisingly easy.
Mark the middle, offer to the front of the boat and work back.
We simply used cable ties through the existing eyes.
The ends were consolidated using ...Shrink wrap.
Use thin line to achieve the necessary tension between the end of the internal wire and the fixture on the transom.
An easily accomplished job.

Hi Carole,

I am Simon Papendick and I worked at Hardy Marine between 1983 and 1990 . The wooden support rails I make them for owners. They are made from Mahogany and are a triangular shape with the top side and the side that fits against the hull are 30mm in length.. As with many I have made recently I make them up in four sections, two long sections to go forward and end just ahead of the scupper hole on the aft end of the side decks and then a short length to go from just behind the scupper to the aft end of the hull. This way the rope fender does not rot away at the scupper. this is the place where the water collects and rots the wood and the rope fender. If you wish to talk about your rope fender supports just email at jstarboat services1@gmail.com or phone me on my works mobile 0753445729.

Kind Regards

Simon Papendick

Hi Richard, looking very smart! I am about to fit a rope fender to my Hardy Fisher 20 and am trying to find a picture of the hardwood support so I can have one made, my boat currently just has small screw holes where the support was and I can't find any photos of what should be there. Any chance you have any photos of yours that I could look at, would be much appreciated,
Carole

* Last one I fitted was in 2011 from Hardy natural coir I think would have been made by Master Ropemakers Chatham. Spec was 51ft and 4 inch diameter. A diagram was supplied of a Spanish Windless of how to fit.

I have just ordered a replacement from Rope Services UK made this time from synthetic "polyhemp"hopefully will las longer.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi Richard I'm no expert but I did re-rope our Mariner. Steel core.
Have you compared old rope with new. 300 mm seems a bit of a stretch...
I found the centre and worked from the bow temporarily, securing to the "eyes" provided. I then attached each end to the tensioners
Finally I secured to the "eyes" with cable ties through the rope.
Hope this helps. Tony

* Hi All,

I have a need rope for the Hardy 24. What is the best way to fit this as I am struggling to get the other end reach the other shackle! I must have about 300mm to pull. Advise would be great!

Richard
