The 15mm plastic piping was connected by push-fit connectors with screw caps. The tee piece was missing a washer and the piping had been fastened back against the other bulkhead piping and cables with lots of cable ties distorting the entry angles. Basically bad plumbing practice. The tee piece was replaced with another make and the pipework left looser. Tested ok so hopefully problem fixed.

On early boats there was a pressure switch close to the pump. I would not have thought the pump (Probably Jabsco) would be poweful enough to do that but maybe worth a check.
Later I fitted a constant pressure pump which maintains a better flow rate

Planning to visit tomorrow with my expanded toolbag for a long look at the plumbing and electrics. Fortunately B&Q is not too far away.

Ice is a possibility but either way you need a new joint. Is it standard 15 or 22mm ? Copper or plastic pipe ? All depends too on the type of push fit, some can screw apart others need insert tools. If there's plenty room and easy access you're probably best to cut out the joint and redo with new pipe, straight connectors and T piece. Common brand push fits will fit all existing 15 or 22mm but need pipe inserts too.
Post a few pictures if you can.

Not really sure John. The boat's in Cardiff Marina on a pontoon on the river Ely which is small, fairly sheltered but can be windy. Are you thinking ice may have forced the joint open so it can be reseated?

Terry are you sure your water pipes did not freeze in the winter?

Last weekend was the first visit to the boat for some 14 months, post lockdown etc etc. Switching things on to see what was functioning I tried the water pump. There was a pause, lots of coughing and spluttering, a trickle at the sink tap and a shower of water from the tee piece that splits the pumped supply to the shower or the galley. This is the first time it has happened and I'm flummoxed as to how a push fit joint could suddenly start to leak. Do these joints fail in time or was it caused by excess pressure in the pipework, does it need venting somehow?
