Welcome to the world of the 42

The problem here Robert is that nearly all 42's Differ - Mine has a Jabsco Macerating pump.
They are normally are self priming. but Is it possible the pipe is blocked. This can be cleaned with one of those flexible rod things checking inlet and outlet after removing the pipes from the pump. Usually the floor panel above the pump lifts out.

Your pump seems to use duckbill valves and these can fail but are easily replaceable https://www.vetus-shop.com/repair-set-emp133-134-140-membrane-orings-valves-p-3097.html

Best of luck John

Dear Hardy Owners - I have a Hardy 42 (year 2009) , with a 390 lt holding tank and Vetus pump out system.

Over the winter, the holding tank system had some maintenance and the electronic seacock valve was replaced.

Now, I am unable to pump out the tank while far out at sea, and having to use the marina suction pumpout (not pleasant).

The Vetus EMP134 pump is running, and the seacocks are open. But the tank does not empty. I can hear and feel water movement in the pipe, but the tank does not empty.

Reading on various forums about waste water system problems, ideas are that the pump needs priming, or the impellors need replacing.

Do any members have experience or advice on similar problems ?

Thanks very much,

Robert Ryan
