* Hi Lawrence
I did this exact job on a boat I fitted out as new, where I had to CE Mark it rather than have a Boat Safety. I was getting a lot of my advice from the Boat Safety website and also the Gas Safe examiner who examined my whole gas installation on the boat. They all said the regulations were the same for CE marking a new boat and for the Boat Safety.
At about 5mm from the bottom of my gas box, I drilled a 25mm hole. I then sealed it and fitted a stainless drain scupper. This stops water coming in the boat if the level of the bottom of your gas box is not always above the water line. If you are thinking of using the scupper , it is best check that the boat safety examiner is happy with the drain pipe being about 10mm from the bottom of the gas box, as you will not be able to get it lower as you have to be able to turn a nut on the scupper in the gas box.
If this is too much work for you, perhaps just drill a hole and seal it but estimate where the waterline will be when you are going faster and the bow goes up and stern goes down.

Hi lawrence,
You will need a 19 mm hole saw to drill the hole.
First drill a small pilot hole in the centre of the 19mm making sure that you have room for the hole, then the hole saw will have a mandrel drill in the centre which allows you to centre the holesaw in your pilot hole.
Drill the hole and then clean the edges of the hole you have cut and then seal the edges of the cut hole with some silicon sealant.
You maybe able to find a finishing bush to fit in the hole so that it finishes off the outside edge nicely.

Richard

* I've recently had a boat safety exam and failed on several things. Wasn't too surprised as the boat was used on the sea previously and now sits on the medway. However the examiner asked me to drill a hole in the propane locker (in picture) at least 19mm in diameter. It has to be at the bottom and exit through the side. I'm a bit dubious about putting a hole through the fiberglass hull. Mainly because I haven't had experience drilling or working with fiberglass Wondered if anyone had already done this or something something similar and how you have done it? Cheers
