Peter,

We always keep a tether handy and have Harness Lifejackets (in my business you never know what boat you'll need it on). Interesting how it;s taken this long to see the design flaw - I guess they'll be an updated type in a couple of years.

There probably isn't much call for 'clipping on' on motorboats but I do have a tether available should I need to go out on deck in bad weather (in emergency only) and there are Hardy motor sailers, so the following should be of interest: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a535cfe40f0b648c72358ff/SB1_2018.pdf
