Hi John, Thanks for your response. The instruction for installation show the same methods as in your attachment and the original transducer is mounted in this way. My fitter has the transducer in a bag of water to ascertain where it can be installed. The fact we get no reading through the hull suggests the hull is over 12mm thick. (Any ideas how thick it is ? anyone). It may be that some glass fibre has been cut out. I'll be over to look at it tomorrow. David

I have an internal transducer in a bigger boat so probably a thicker hull! It works very well, but will never be as good as through the hull fixing. But it is essential that you have a liquid connection between the transducer and the hull., usually a thin oil such as hydraulic fluid. It is also important that you have an area of the hull which is single skinned, i.e. not a foam sandwich, which is unlikely with your boat, and that the transducer is mounted vertically You will find many references to fitting an in hull transducer on the internet, for example http://www.stowemarine.com/Depth_In_Hull.pdf -- I seem to remember Airmar have a similar instruction leaflet.

Hi All, I am having a problem installing a Garmin Striker 4 fishfinder on my Hardy 25. It is a replacement for a Garmin Fishfinder 100 which had an in hull transducer. This is being replaced because of the failure of the 100's screen. I have wired in the Striker 4. It works with (recognises) the supplied transom mounted transducer but we can't use that because there is too much turbulence from outdrive and trim tabs. It does not work with the old in hull transducer (despite having the correct adapter cable). It does not recognise it. I have purchased a new Airmar P79 which works well when dangled over the side but not at all when in the hull (next to the old one). It seems that the hull is too thick. Anyone any ideas what next ? Thanks in advance Dave Atherton
