Hello Mark I hope you enjoy your Navigator. I also purchased mine from Christchurch. Regarding the steering. I do not want to guess but is there a chance the inner core of your steering cable could be corroded. Before you renew it, check it is the correct one for your outboard as people on this forum think Teleflex helm which was designed to cope with up to 53hp cannot really cope with a heavy 50hp 4 stroke outboard. I had this probelm on my Navigator and renewed the cable and Teleflex helm which was designed to cope with up to 53hp outboards. My outboard is a Mariner 4 stroke bigfoot model. After renewing the cable, I noticed it was less stiff but not free flowing. On retruning to my mooring in strong winds, I put the steering into full lock and heard the helm loose its grip and the outboard went to one side heavily. The steering had no grip. I put this probelm on the forum and Simon Kidd was helpfull and reccomended a steerring system designed for outboards from 50hp upwards. In the end I took his advice and fitted a NFB (no feedback system) from Seastar Solutions. There is also the option of the Safe-T system from Seastar / Teleflex. You will see most of the information by going to the foum search, selecting 'steering', then selecting 'Sloppy+stiff steering on old FP20'. After that select 'Navigator steering', click Most recent to oldest message, then go to Message 9 of 12, dated Wednesday 10 September 2014. This was my message. View this message to the most recent. Helps this helps. Regards Rob

Beautiful clear sky, warm and almost flat calm. The wind was forecast to be around 7 miles an hour from the south west, so the sheltered waters of Portland harbour and Weymouth bay were almost perfect for my first sea trials. We moved the Navigator from her old home port at Christchurch a few weeks ago, and since then she has been on the trailer in the yard at Ferrybridge Marine between Weymouth and Portland. I decided to not put her in the water on a swing mooring, until the spring, as the winter storms can really batter the Chesil Beach area, and boats left in the Fleet lagoon, have in the past suffered damage, or even been lost. The friendly staff at Ferrybridge, were extremely helpful, and with the expert guidance of the telehandler driver, George, we were backed into the water for the first time. Happy to report, we had a lovely day out, and learnt a lot about the boats handling and trim settings, the Mariner 50 seemed to be easily capable of pushing the boat onto the plane with no problems, although a little noisier than I expected, it performed faultlessly. Only issues shown up by this first trip, was that the steering seemed stiffer than anticipated despite greasing all the points I could find. Will investigate this further and report back, unless others have any clues to point me in the right direction? Mark
