Thanks Simon. I'll ask Steve to look again at the drag link as I did wonder about that. Part of the problem is I didn't know the correct terms for these things until just now. Tony

Hi Tony. I have fitted a teleflex NFB (No feedback) system to a Bosun - is was the 3 turn NFB system - seemed to work ok and fit well. The general every day Safe-T teleflex stering system should be ok - but the NFB type means you can drive hands off - just makes it less tiring. I fitted the Safe-T system (max 115hp) to the navigator and that was ok - if a little wandery. I now have a 4.2 turn NFB on the H25 - works fine, very little play, arrow straight but quite stiff. If you're staying with the 25hp then the max 53/55hp systems should be fine - there shouldn't be much play unless your system is very worn. I have had problems in the past with the incorrect drag link being fitted to the steering at the engine - this meaning a couple of mm of play at the tiller arm - but i'm sure your guy would have picked up on that. In terms of stiffness, your steering should be very free - so something is wrong - probably a corroded cable end. It would be worth discnnecting the engine from the steering arm (at the engine) just to be sure the engine turns very freely. For furture steering (if not using Hydraulic) i'd go with an NFB system unless you really want finger light steering - in which case the standard 53hp or SafeT system should suffice. Just my thoughts. Best Regards Simon.

As I was saying, "Isetta" (1982 FP) has a 25hp Mercury and has clearly had a replacement steering system which is the cable (Teleflex) type. Steve at Portguide Marine (highly recommended) on the Medway says it is a light duty steering system, suitable for up to 53hp, which should have been OK but it is very heavy and has significant play, so hard to keep on a straight course. Can anyone suggest the correct steering system for a Family Pilot? Thanks Tony
