It's a difficult one David, especially with Boat values fluctuating so much currently.
I find that outboards seem to depreciate quite considrably initially and then level off after a few years. Most midrange engines seem to sit around the £1500 - £3500 mark, depending on age and size etc. Of course a very recent engine is a different matter, but even then due to the deals available from dealers, the price of even a slightly used engine can be quite a lot less than new (no warranty etc of course).
I would certainly edge towards the higher Hull value with equipment, a replacement Bosun is a lot more than a replacement outboard. Of course, if you have a later outboard (i.e. 2011 / 12+) then you should probably raise the overall insurable value a little, as there does'nt seem a lot of room in the figures.
Just my thoughts.
Best Regards
Simon.

Seamark Nunn in Suffolk sell brokerage outboards: http://www.seamarknunn.co.uk/download/usedob/used.pdf
They don't have your 70 but some extrapolation of the 50 might give you an idea.

I have a Hardy Bosun, 2004 in good condition, re-sale value about £16,500 (inc. outboard).
My renewal from GJW is showing on the schedule:
Hull, Machinery and Gear : £14,000
Outboard £2,500
My question to the more experienced Hardy owners is:
The outboard is a Suzuki DF 70, new price about £7000/£8000, so second hand value must be more than £2500, probably more like £4000 if I could find one in good order.
What would you recommend as a correct split for insurance purposes?? i.e. what is the hull worth without the engine??
I think I should put it at Hull £12,000 o/b £5000
Your thoughts??
Thanks in advance.
