UPDATE!
I have managed to get a local company - Hamble Cover Service at Mercury Yacht Harbour, to insert a heavy duty zip just aft of the cockpit.
They did a great job and I can now take of the rear section but still leave the roof on.
This also means there is less canopy to fold away on the stern.
The zip has a rubberised cover to it, and also a clip on both ends to improve the strength when under tension!
It cost £110 which I think is pretty reasonable.
I also had a stainless steel support bar made (to replace the cracked aluminum one) for £45 by a small ebgineering company at Hamble Point marina.
All I need now is a decent 40/50HP 2 stroke outboard!!

Further to my recent posting about putting a hard top on my Hardy 17, after some thought I'm wondering if it may be better if I were to split the canopy so that I can keep the cockpit section on while stowing the remainder, if you see what I mean!
I wonder therefore if anyone has done this, and if so how they did it and roughly how much it cost!
This would have some advantage over a hard roof in that there are times when being able to totally remove the roof would be good; ie on a hot sunny day!
Thanks in anticipation,
Mike
