You don't need to prove it. VAT will have been paid when the boat was first purchased. If we had to prove that then no one would be able to sell their used boats on. Either the prospective purchaser is wanting to take the boat out of UK or is not in touch with the used boat market. Is it reasonable if someone asked to see proof of VAT paid when selling your used car?

If the purchaser is wanting to take the boat out of the U.K. Consider registering the boat on the Small Ship's Register. Easily carried out online on the MCA web site. This will give you proof of ownership of a British owned and registered vessel. Accepted by U.K. Customs on re entry to the U.K. Cost £25 for 5 years registery.

I am trying to sell my 1988 Hardy 20 Pilot but have hit on a snag. A possible purchaser has asked for proof that VAT has been paid on her at some time in her life and I can find no relevant paperwork. Does anyone out there have personal experience of where I might find this proof?
