I am posting on behalf of a friend. Last year he purchased a second hand Hardy Pilot 20. After much labour of love he launched late last summer. The boat is fitted with 2x Yamaha 40HP 2 Stroke. There are no rev counters fitted. He tells me he is getting about 8knts (gps). He is happy that the engines are revving out (he is an experienced motorbike mechanic). The hull was clean. I took a look last night and the props are 11 3/4 X 12G. Standard props that came with the engines when new. Looking at other posts I would have said he should achieve 20knts at least. Is there anybody out there that has a similar setup that can advise on recomended prop size. Thanks in advance, Jim.

Hi Jim. Not being an expert by any means but replying with a few ideas first the 2 x 40s do not give the same power as 1 x 80 probably at least 20% lessthan an 80......added to this the extra weight of 2 engins...thus you wont get the boat on the plane & only achive displacement speeds.........Having just fitted a new engine they dont usually come with a "standard Prop" & trial & error is needed to find the best one (different hull designes..weight carried & weight distribution)....are the 40 set up as counter rotating......Id advise calling Yamaha uk & talk to the tech guys.....Ps your fuel consumption/fuel carried with the 2 stroke twin set up willalso be a bit steep......good luck..Steve
