All replies much appreciated , my tank looks standard and sits in the center of the boat , the only way seems to be cut out the forward bulkhead , or cut the tank out and replace with a smaller one that fits through the hatch hole. Many thanks peter

Peter, I had a 1989 Hardy 25, inboard/outboard,open back wheelhouse with a locker and helmsman seat to starboard and fridge with seat on top to port, Is this the same as your boat? I removed my old rusty tank which was tight against the hull, low down on the port side of wheelhouse, and had a new one made. I removed the fridge plus cabinet, seat and side panel which then allowed me to wriggle the tank up and out onto wheelhouse deck. The tank is shaped to the hull and is a very tight fit and the odd shape of it does not help, but it does come out without major surgery. Charlie.

Pete, a few other points - your tank is probably 40 gallon capacity the same as mine. Make sure all fuel removed before trying to pull tank out. You might have to also cut away some of the timber beam that bears the wheelhouse deck. The water the tank is sitting in can be fully drained by removing the inspection plate set in the cabin deck (mine is in the centre adjacent to the cooker). Make sure you remove all carpet before doing this. This little channel communicates with the tank room and is intended to keep a check on leakage. When tank is out check that bulkhead between tank and engine is sound as any small cracks can allow water to seep in from engine room. Good luck, Steve.

Peter, I took mine out last year. The best option I decided on was to enlarge the opening from the tank room into the cabin. To do this you will have to cut close to the heads door frame and a similar cut down the port side allowing enough room with wiggle space to pull the tank through. These cuts will need to go right down to the sole. The sender unit and all other connections need to be removed before easing tank out. This bulkhead, however, is important to bund any spillage of fuel so must be glassed back in as best as you can manage. Hope this helps, Steve.

Hi , i have a Hardy 25 with an inboard deisal engine and steel fuel tank 30ish gallons approx. I need to get the fuel tank out to clean it inside and out ,also its sitting in a bit of water which is doing it no favours with rusting so i need to dry that out as well. I have tried very hard but cannot get it out of the hatch hole , Any ideas . thanks peter
