Sludge and water in the fuel tank - get it out of there pronto! Once that sludge gets up into your fuel pump and the injectors you will be in big trouble. I would say do not got to sea where the wave motion will stir up that sludge and then you will probably need the RNLI next. For more info there is a very good book called Diesel Troubleshooter by Don Seddon from Fernhurst Books about £11. Lots in there about fuel filters - Pre filter and Main filter with water drain off.
